Bold. Unapologetic. Authentic. 100 years ago, Save the Children’s founder had a vision: to achieve and protect the rights of children worldwide. In 2023 we commissioned a new portrait to honor her on International Women’s Day – while we honor her vision every day. Artist Credit: Sam Rodriguez
What Is International Women’s Day?
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. International Women's Day was started in by suffragettes in 1911.Â
In 2023, »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵcommissioned a new portrait to honor our founder, Eglantyne Jebb, on International Women’s Day.Â
When is International Woman's Day?
International Women's Day is March 8th, 2024.
Why do we celebrate International Women's Day?
For more than 100 years, »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵhas been advocating for children, girls and mothers. We believe that all children deserve to grow up and achieve their dreams – regardless of their gender.
Even today, in many communities around the world, sons are considered superior, while daughters are viewed as a burden. Families marry off their daughters early – as young as 9 years old – and then their education ends and the cycle of poverty continues. And more than 16 million adolescent girls give birth each year – shockingly 95% of them are in the developing world.
Donate on International Women's Day
An International Women's Day donation can help girls develop the resources, skills and confidence to participate in planning their future. »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵhelps empower girls and encourage families to let daughters prove just how much they value they offer.
