FAIRFIELD, Conn. (July 28, 2022) — With heavy rains producing deadly and damaging floodwaters overnight throughout eastern Kentucky and expected to continue for the next few days, ��ɫ��Ƶis working to help children recover in the areas hardest hit by the treacherous downpour.

With emergency supplies pre-positioned ahead of the flooding, Save the Children’s Kentucky-based and emergency response staff are mobilizing to deliver essential items to eastern Kentucky kids, families and communities – including water, hygiene kits,  diapers, wipes, cribs, and cleaning supplies for schools. The global humanitarian nonprofit is also communicating with national and state partners to assess children’s most immediate needs, as well as local early learning partners, to gauge the impact and needs for the area’s child care centers.

"Many children have been ripped from the lives they once knew – unsure of what the future may hold – and it’s critical we get them the relief supplies and support they need to begin to recover during this difficult time," said David Niersbach, head of Save the Children’s humanitarian and emergency response in the U.S. “��ɫ��Ƶis committed to supporting Kentucky kids and their families, both in the immediate aftermath of the flooding and long-term.”

Save the Children, the national leader in protecting children in emergencies, has been helping America’s children recover from major disasters since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The nonprofit has also been working in Kentucky’s rural communities since 1932, providing support to children and families most impacted by poverty and inequality. Today, this includes leading high-quality early education programs in some of the most impoverished rural communities.
