Our Work for Children in Dominican Republic

Because water is a basic staple, Save the Children鈥檚 health teams have been providing potable water and promoting health and hygiene 鈥撎齣n addition to crop planting and cultivation, and animal breeding. Plus, we have worked to introduce school, home and community-based fruit and vegetable gardens, helping to educate families on growing their own food, to achieve better nutrition.

Save the Children鈥檚 protection workers have been helping the vulnerable Batey Communities for nearly a decade. The project鈥檚 goal was to improve the living conditions of 鈥渢he Bateys鈥澨齠ormer sugar cane work camps, which are home to Haitian migrant workers, Dominicans and their families.听

The project focused on health, education services, and income-generating activities. Improvements included refurbishing schools, enhancing teachers鈥 knowledge, revamping sanitary infrastructure, and other projects dedicated to raising living standards and promoting sustainable development.
